LACMA's Patient Care Foundation to Present the 2023 Innovation Award for Community Service to St. John's Transgender Health Program at the Los Angeles Healthcare Awards on Dec. 1!
In a transformative journey spanning a decade, St. John's Community Health's Transgender Health Program in South LA has been a beacon of hope and inclusivity for individuals, regardless of their gender identity, gender expression, or sexual orientation. This remarkable program has not only provided essential healthcare services but has also become a symbol of empathy, understanding, and unwavering support in an environment where many have been denied primary healthcare based on their gender identity.
For the employees of this extraordinary program, this mission is deeply personal. They understand, firsthand, the painful experience of being turned away by healthcare providers due to their transgender identity. Fylicee Majesty, serving as the program's intake coordinator, openly shared her own experience, stating, "The doctors would not see me for being transgender." Majesty, along with her colleagues, works tirelessly to ensure that no one else faces the isolation and rejection she once did. Their dedication includes helping patients access a range of crucial services, from routine check-ups to hormone replacement therapy and even assistance with securing housing.
Today, we celebrate the remarkable journey of this program, a decade-long commitment to breaking down barriers and ensuring that healthcare is accessible to everyone, regardless of their gender identity or expression. St. John's Community Health's Transgender Health Program has become a symbol of hope, a testament to the transformative power of empathy, and a shining example of what can be achieved when compassion and dedication unite in the name of inclusivity.
